As you can see, this book has gotten many awards, like the Newberry Honor and the National Book Award.
This book was very unique, as it told the story in the way of a poem. The story it told, took place in Vietnam at the time of war with a girl called Há, her mother, and her three older brothers, Brothers Khoi, Vu, and Quang.
In the book, it tells a tale of a Vietnam girl and her family escaping the Vietnam war, and leaving the only place she had ever known, Home.
After they endure the trip to America, She and her brothers find it hard to get used to the way it was in America. Há also learns a valuable lesson from her mom:
“Oh, My Daughter, at times you have to fight, but preferably, not with your fits.”
It was to mean, using force is not a way to go when solving a problem. To read this book, you can buy it here.
